Special Event - Lilly May's Baptism

29 January 2008

This was a very special day for Year 5. As part of our RE topic on Baptism, we decided that the best way to learn about what happens at a Baptism was to have our own in the classroom. So Lilly May (the doll from Reception Class) was Baptised. Four children roleplayed her parents and godparents and our student Mr Downham, from Newman College, offered to play the part of the priest.

We set up an altar in the classroom and collected our symbols of Baptism. The parents and godparents loved dressing up for the occasion and took it all very seriously.

We went through the rites of Baptism and all renewed our Baptismal promises. We concluded the service with a little party.

The parents, godfather and priest are welcomed.
