Curriculum and Teaching
“Follow your dreams using the guiding light of Jesus.”
At Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, our mission guides the education we provide. We want every child to discover their God-given talents, develop a love of learning and have the confidence to pursue their ambitions. With Christ at the centre of our school, we support children to grow in knowledge, faith and character.
Our curriculum is broad, ambitious and carefully sequenced. Learning builds from year to year so that children develop secure knowledge, skills and vocabulary across subjects. We have high expectations for every pupil, including children with special educational needs and disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Teaching helps children connect new ideas to what they already know. We prioritise strong foundations in communication and language, reading, writing and mathematics so that children can access learning across the curriculum. Opportunities to revisit learning, discuss ideas, practise skills and apply understanding help children remember and use what they have learnt. Teachers check understanding, identify misconceptions and gaps, and adapt their teaching accordingly. Feedback helps children recognise their successes and understand their next steps. Adaptations and additional support address individual needs while maintaining high expectations and developing independence.
Our Catholic faith runs through school life and learning. Through the Catholic Pupil Profile and Catholic Social Teaching, children explore how their choices affect others. They learn to recognise the dignity of every person, care for God’s creation and contribute to their communities. We encourage respect for different faiths and beliefs and help children understand their responsibilities as citizens.
