Our Curriculum

At Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, our curriculum reflects our Catholic faith and our ambition for every child. We want children to develop a secure understanding of the subjects they study, discover their interests and become curious, knowledgeable learners.

Building knowledge over time

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and the National Curriculum, alongside Religious Education. It is carefully organised so that learning builds from Reception through to Year 6.

Our planning identifies the important knowledge, skills and vocabulary children need to learn. Each unit builds on previous learning and prepares children for what comes next. Key ideas are revisited and developed so that children deepen their understanding and can use their learning in different situations.

We value each subject’s distinctive knowledge and skills, while making meaningful connections between subjects where these help children’s understanding.

A curriculum for our children

Our curriculum helps children understand their local community and the wider world. Catholic Social Teaching, Gospel values and opportunities to explore different cultures and beliefs help children consider their responsibilities towards others and the world around them.

We maintain ambition for all pupils. Adaptations and support help children access learning, build on their starting points and work towards meaningful next steps.

Explore your child’s learning

Select a year group below to find its curriculum documents. These provide more detail about the subjects and units taught, including the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary children will develop.

The documents help families understand what children are learning and provide a useful starting point for conversations at home. If you would like further information about any aspect of the curriculum, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
