Year 6
Year 6 Curriculum
In Year 6, children bring together the knowledge and skills developed throughout primary school as they prepare for the transition to secondary education. We support them to become confident, thoughtful and increasingly independent learners who can approach new challenges and recognise when to seek help.
Children deepen their understanding of demanding texts, compare ideas and support their interpretations with evidence. They refine their writing through careful choices of vocabulary, structure and tone, adapting it for different purposes and audiences. In mathematics, they strengthen their fluency, solve increasingly complex problems and explain their reasoning clearly. Across the wider curriculum, children investigate questions, evaluate information and draw on previous learning to reach informed conclusions.
Our Catholic faith guides this journey. As the oldest pupils in our school, children are encouraged to lead by example, take responsibility and use their gifts in service to others. We help them leave Our Lady’s ready to follow their dreams, guided by the teachings of Jesus.

The curriculum documents below outline what children learn in Year 6. They identify the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary taught across subjects and help families talk about and support learning at home.
