Year 1

Year 1 Curriculum

In Year 1, children build on their learning in Reception as they develop confidence, independence and curiosity. We support them through the transition into Key Stage 1, helping them establish strong foundations for the years ahead.

Developing communication, reading, writing and mathematical understanding is central to learning in Year 1. Across the wider curriculum, children explore new ideas, ask questions and learn about the world around them. Practical experiences, discussion and opportunities to revisit learning help them develop their knowledge, skills and vocabulary.

Our Catholic faith guides this journey. Children learn to recognise their own gifts, care for others and follow Jesus’ example in their everyday choices.

The curriculum documents below outline what children learn in Year 1. They identify the key knowledge, skills and vocabulary taught across subjects and help families talk about and support learning at home.
