    MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

    Supporting your child’s wellbeing

At Our Lady’s, we want every child to feel safe, valued and listened to. Our Catholic faith reminds us of the dignity of every person and the importance of caring for one another.

If you are worried about your child’s emotional wellbeing, please speak to us. We can talk through your concerns and explore what support may help.

    What is Compass?

Compass Birmingham Mental Health Support Team (MHST) offers free early support for children and families in partner schools. The service helps with mild to moderate emotional wellbeing difficulties, working with children, parents, carers and school staff.

    What can Compass help with?

    Worries and fears

Helping children understand anxious feelings and develop ways to manage their worries.

    Feeling low

Supporting children who feel sad or are finding it difficult to feel motivated.

    Managing strong feelings

Building skills to cope with anger, frustration and emotions that feel overwhelming.

    Relationships and change

Supporting children with friendship or family difficulties, and adjusting to changes and transitions.

    What might support look like?

    • Individual support: sessions to develop practical coping skills.
    • Group support: opportunities to explore feelings and learn strategies together.
    • Support for parents and carers: guidance and programmes to help families support their child.
    • Support across school: workshops, assemblies and work with staff to promote positive wellbeing.

Compass will discuss your concerns with you and consider whether its support is suitable. Where another service would be more appropriate, the team can help you find the right support.

    Would you like to talk?

If you have concerns, speak to your child’s class teacher or contact the school office and ask to speak to someone about your child’s wellbeing.

You do not need to know which service you need before starting that conversation.
