LO: to create a fact file about bats using the sounds I know in my writing
Show the children the ‘Bats Presentation’ and help them to read the sentences. Discuss the information they have read and ask them to recall the facts. Display the ‘Bat picture cards’ and explain to the children that they are going to make an information display about bats. Use one of the bat writing frames with your child and encourage them to draw and label pictures of the bats and write simple bat fact sentences.
Note: Bats ‘see’ in the dark using a special skill called echolocation. Bats make noises and wait for the sound waves to bounce back off objects (an echo). If the sound waves don’t bounce back, they can safely fly forwards. Bats can tell the distance of various objects by how quickly the sound waves bounce back to them.
