Year 5 Attend the Skills Show

15 November 2012

On Thursday November 15th, Year 5 got the opportunity to attend the Skills Show in the NEC.

The Skills Show is a unique annual celebration that inspires people with exciting opportunities in further education skills and apprentices. The Skills Show was held in the NEC over three days and was bigger than 9 football pitches.

The organisers were expecting over 100,000 visitors throughout the 3 days.

When we arrived, we got split into three groups. All three groups managed to do completely different activities.

Mr O’Shea’s group got to try their hand at building archways and bricklaying before moving on to fashion design!

Mrs Lavery’s group decorated cakes and did the tyre change challenge. Diovan was the winner with an impressive time of 1minute 4 seconds!

Mrs Carroll’s group got to be forensic investigators at a crime scene by looking footprints in order to find the criminal. Some of the girls had a look at dentistry and even made a mould of their teeth to take home! John got to have a go in a flight simulator while others spoke to the Army about a trade career in the services.

We also got to see the competitions that were taking place between all the apprentices in their respective trades. They were competing to be the apprentice of the year.

Everybody in Year 5 really enjoyed the day and we learnt a lot about all the different skills you can learn when you leave school. We would like to thank Ms Johnson for giving us this wonderful opportunity and Mr O’Shea, Mrs Lavery and Mrs Carroll for coming with us!
