Year 6 Day in Politics

20 October 2015

Year 6 have completed their 'Day at the hustings' and have learnt what it's like to become part of a political party.

Working with Enabling Enterprise the children formed their own political parties. They created their own names, slogons, logos and colours. They were then given 10 billion pound to spend on a maximum of three areas of society. Many of the children chose to spend their money on education, hospitals, environment or response services. They created their manifesto based on what they were promising to do for each area.

Following this they created some 'stash' to advertise their party and to show the public what they were supporting in society. Finally they presented their ideas to a group of 'judges' and explained their party decisions and tried to persuade the public to vote for them. All the children and judges then voted for the party that persuaded them the most.

The winning party was 'Politics Party' who promised to help education, hospitals and the fire service.

The children had a fantastic day and were even dressed for the occasion! They now can't wait for their visit to the Houses of Parliament in November to see where our government works and where the big decisions are made! Watch out David Cameron - Year 6 are coming!
